Gothic Remake Candy Myluv's Lets Play Arc 1
A Rough Landing and First Steps
My adventure in the Barrier began with a rough landing. Practically the moment I touched the ground of the colony, Bullet and his cronies welcomed me with a heavy beating. Luckily, Diego was right there to welcome me warmly and offer me my first foothold in this harsh world.
To arm myself against the dangers of the colony, I quietly slipped past the guards and secured my very first bow. Shortly after, I discovered a valuable hunting knife stuck in a tree. I brought it to Drax, who gave me a shortbow in exchange. My curiosity also led me to a secret underwater cave, which I looted completely.
Making a Name in the Old Camp
Once I arrived in the Old Camp, everything seemed to go well at first, until I picked up an innocent concert flyer for In Extremo. The guards did not find that funny at all, leading to a wild brawl where I got the short end of the stick and was completely cleaned out. Though the loss stung, I swore revenge and put the guards straight onto my personal hit list. Shortly after, another resident made my life miserable: Mud followed me at every turn and got completely on my nerves. Since I cannot stand people who just use animals, I did not hesitate and made short work of him.
To gain influence in the Old Camp, I set out to win the favor of the influential Shadows. Whistler needed his grand weapon, the ornate ornamental sword. I went to Fisk, who demanded a hefty 110 ore nuggets instead of the 100 Whistler had estimated. With a little cleverness, I got the extra ore back from Whistler, procured the weapon, and secured his important vote. I also wanted to impress Fingers, but he demanded proof of my thieving talent. So, I daringly snuck into the hut of the arena master, Skatty, cracked his chest, and swiped a ring. Since this ring served me so well in combat with its extra two points of strength, I kept it on my finger for the time being, even though the quest for Fingers was basically ready to be turned in. For Snaf, I gathered meatbugs and hell mushrooms, helping the cook with his infamous meatbug ragout.
Trouble on the Rice Fields
Since the atmosphere in the Old Camp was becoming increasingly tense after my little thieving tours and constant friction, I decided to have Mordrag escort me to the New Camp. The path there was dangerous, but together we cleared the way, and I gained valuable experience with my bow. No sooner had I arrived in the New Camp than the pushy Lefty tried to draft me for eternal water duty on the rice fields. After diligently distributing water at first, I finally challenged him. On my second attempt, I defeated him in a duel, demanded my stolen belongings back, and took a powerful weapon from him that dealt a proud 26 damage. Ever since that thrashing, Lefty has given me a wide berth.
Finding Armor and Making Deals
My next big goal was protection. I hiked up the steep path to the Free Mine, cheekily introduced myself to the foreman as a new scraper, and actually received my very first armor, the basic scraper's clothing. It was cobbled together from mere rags, but it finally gave me the desperately needed defense to avoid collapsing at the first scratch. Along the way, I stumbled upon a rich ore vein in the mine where I could diligently hack away. Thanks to intense training and Mordrag's ring, my dexterity rose to a proud 35 points, which made an immediate difference when I targeted wolves and the annoying lurker at the big dam with my bow.
I spent my hard-earned learning points wisely: I learned the art of acrobatics from Buster, which made it easier for me to dodge in combat and allowed me to survive long falls unharmed. From Wolf, I also mastered the bow, allowing me to aim and shoot much faster from then on.
My entrepreneurial spirit did not fall short either. First, I distributed swampweed for Kagan, and then I offered myself as a business partner to the lazy Isidro. Together we raked in plenty of ore and experience, and I even learned how to sell swampweed on my own to the bandits and mercenaries of the camp for a tidy profit.
Secrets of the Lake and the Fistfighter
In Silas’ tavern, I sought a conversation with the rowdy Reik and defused the tense situation peacefully over a cold beer. He confided in me that the mighty Rice Lord had backstabbed him when it came to control over the rice fields. At the time, the Rice Lord himself was missing his foreman, Bran. I questioned the peasants in the fields and found out that Bran had secretly left for a cave near the lake. In that cave, however, I did not find Bran, but Jacko and his illegal weed production. After a tough fight, I confronted Jacko, who confessed that Bran owed him a massive debt and was supposed to plunder Silas’ secret tavern cellar to pay it off. On the way back, some greedy highwaymen tried to block my path in the dark, but with climbing tactics and my new bow skills, I successfully put them to flight.
Shortly after, I met a very special character in the camp: Jan Bleskewit, an extremely strong fistfighter clothed only in a cap, gloves, and pants. He had broken his ankle, so I got him some soothing healing salt from the mage Cronos. Grateful, he offered to teach me fistfighting. On that occasion, I stealthily swiped the valuable book Bestiary Volume 1 from his hut. To secure even more loot in the future, I visited Wolf and invested 20 learning points to master the art of lockpicking.
Justice, Hunting, and Heavy Bows
With these new skills, I solved the mystery of Silas' cellar. As thanks for my earlier help, Reik revealed a secret underwater entrance to me. I took a deep breath, dived through the dark lake, and actually found the corpse of the missing Bran along with his valuable blue axe in the damp cellar. I confronted the tavern keeper Silas directly with the evidence. He confessed to the murder but claimed Bran had tried to rob him. I pocketed his generous bribe ore but cold-bloodedly ratted him out to the Rice Lord anyway, as I could not stand his deceitful nature. To strengthen myself for the upcoming conflict with the field oppressors, I got valuable combat tips from Horatio, who increased my strength by 5 points in exchange for my promise to put an end to the Rice Lord.
During my excursions into the wilderness, I met a strange hunter and alchemist in the dense forest who had a tame wolf by his side and actually rode on a scavenger. He promised me a scavenger whistle but demanded 5 rare King's Sorrel algae first. When I brought them to him, he tasked me with procuring 3 wolf skins and 2 leather straps to craft the matching saddle.
I showed the stolen bestiary to the hunter Cavalon. After a short, improvised quiz on scavenger anatomy, he was so impressed that he taught me for free how to remove their coveted carapace plates undamaged. I invested my hard-earned ore with Drax to learn how to skin animals and extract claws and teeth, so my hunting trips would finally pay off. Since Drax refused to accompany me to the New Camp again, I gave him a beating and took his powerful longbow, which dealt an impressive 40 damage.
Revenge, Magic, and Arena Glory
With this new weapon in hand, I paid a visit to the gate guards of the Old Camp who had so shamelessly robbed me upon my arrival. I challenged the guard to a duel, knocked him down, and reclaimed my stolen belongings piece by piece. Finally, I gathered all the necessary ingredients for Cronos. The mage initiated me into the basics of magic and let me choose my very first permanent rune: the Fire Arrow, ensuring I would never run out of ammunition in battle again.
Back in the Old Camp, I finally returned the ring to Fingers. Afterwards, I grabbed a bowl of warm stew from Snaf. In the old chest in my own hut, I stumbled upon Brock's old recipe for the legendary stew he used to cook for the guards. Snaf shared the ingredients: scavenger meat, onion, carrot, potato, water, and the rare nightshade. In the end, I was only missing a single onion to cook the dish together with him.
In the arena of the Old Camp, I sought a challenge and faced Karim, who mercilessly beat me into the arena sand. When I came to with a pounding head, a massive misunderstanding arose with the guards and Shadows, who suddenly all attacked me as if they were wild. After some dramatic back and forth, I managed to smooth things over and reconcile with the camp's protectors. Later, I returned to the arena, defeated Kirgo, and finally Karim as well, whom I gave a proper thrashing afterwards, which deeply impressed even the critical Scatty.
The Protection Racket Trap
It did not take long before Bloodwyn tried to extort protection money from me, which I proudly refused. Promptly, he set his thugs on me. When the terrified butler Jesse told me of his own plight, I paid his 10 ore protection money without hesitation to help him and spite Bloodwyn. Shortly after, the Shadow Sly sent me outside the camp gates to retrieve a stolen amulet from two men. But the whole thing turned out to be a cowardly trap set by Bloodwyn. In a tough fight against two attackers at once, I successfully fended off the ambush and held the treacherous Sly accountable for his double-crossing.
The Test of Faith in the Old Mine
Finally, the time was ripe for the Test of Faith. Diego tasked me with procuring the list of demands for the Old Mine from the chief mine chief, Ian. On the long trek there, I gathered plenty of experience, slayed wolves, goblins, and bloodflies, and even defeated the extremely dangerous snappers using magic and clever tactics. Behind a thundering waterfall, I also discovered a magical hiding spot containing a richly filled chest.
Arriving in the dusty depths of the Old Mine, I seized every opportunity for a good deal. I cleverly lured the guard Aaron away from his personal chest, bought the matching key from the thieving Snipes for 30 ore nuggets, and looted the chest clean. Bold as I was, I later sold Aaron's own key back to him for 20 ore nuggets. Next, I sought out the secret slacker, Aleph. For 50 ore, he gave me the key to the locked storage chests in the supply shed and even gifted me a ring of strength. Naturally, I cleared out those chests down to the very last cup.
Ultimately, I descended into the deepest shaft of the mine. There, I met Ian, introduced myself, and successfully received the coveted list of demands at the end of this long journey.
